Renaud Louis-Servais was born in France in 1972.
Thanks to his father, a classic guitar player, he started playing the guitar at the age of 8 with his older brother Olivier. At the same period, he mostly listened to Hard-Rock music from the 70’s and the 80’s. At the age of 13 and during the next five years, he joined his first hard-rock band, SENTINELLE, then SOON, a pop rock covers band… many gigs in bars and clubs in the suburb of Paris… that’s the way he learnt « his job ».
Interested in virtuosity from the beginning, his musical influences became many and varied (jazz, progressive rock, jazz-rock, funk, Latin…) and listening to many guitarists helped him build his own guitar-playing style: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Mc Laughlin, Pat Metheny, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth, Greg Howe…
Composer for long years, he created the RENAUD LOUIS-SERVAIS GROUP in 2010. The first album “Iluna” (2011) mirrors what has always been driving him musically: the pleasure to move freely between ‘metal’, progressive music, jazz and rock, with a lot of attention paid to compositions and sound quality. It was recorded and mixed by Steve Prestage (Gino Vannelli, Gary Moore, Peter Gabriel, Marc Bolan…) who provided is incredible experience. Three tracks from this album reached semi-final stages at the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (ISC), and the album was very well reviewed in USA, Holland, Italy and France. Some tracks are still well ranked in US jazz-rock web radios, like Latch Radio (the tracks “Gimmick” and “Dom” were several times #1 on the Top-20 listeners playlist). The album had also very good reviews in Europe, for example on JazzRockTV, a german web TV show… So Jazz/Rock/Fusion/Prog-Rock listeners and guitar afficionados should quickly discover this album !
Found of musical pedagogy, Renaud Louis-Servais taught the guitar to more than 400 students in 20 years. In 2013, he taught the Eddie Van Halen “Eruption solo” to one of his students, Tina S (13 y.o.), who became very famous on YouTube playing this cover (more than 7 millions views).
He made also several videos demonstrating guitar solo covers on his YouTube channel youtube.com/renaudls. He is usually asked by music schools and festivals to gives some guitar master-classes in numerous domains (improvisation, harmony, musical theory…), and more and more asked by web pedagogical sites to make educational guitar videos for them.
Since 2011, Renaud Louis-Servais is endorsed by Tom Anderson guitars on the French territory.
